SWIMMING YOUR FIRST MEET?

Let Coach Bethany know!!

What do I need to wear?

1.       A Black Swim Suit

2.       A SHARKS Swim Cap (boys optional)

3.       Goggles

What else should I bring?

1.       An old sleeping bag or blanket to put on the floor/bleacher to reserve an area and for kids to sit on

2.       Warm clothes (for kids): Sweatshirts, and PJ pants are great for keeping swimmers warm between events.

3.       A folding chair (AWAY MEETS ONLY): otherwise you will be sitting on the floor with the kids

4.       A sharpie: you will want to write your swimmer's event #, heat, and lane

5.       Food/drinks: Kids get hungry! bring some healthy snacks

6.       "Boredom Battlers" Kids (and parents) get bored waiting for events. it is a good idea to bring a deck of cards, book, or other activity.

What about Warm-Ups?

  • You should plan on arriving at least 15 min. before warm-ups begin. This way you have time to get everything situated
  • Warm-ups are MANDATORY because they are VERY important to a successful meet. Warm-ups are a chance for us wake our muscles up and stretch them out before we race

How do I know when my child swims?

  • Heat sheets may be purchased the day of the meet and will list the events, heat and lane that your swimmer is entered in for the entire meet

What about the Bullpen?

  • The Bullpen is where swimmers report when their event is called. Swimmers are seated in the order they will swim and then led to the pool deck.

What does it mean to get a DQ?

A DQ (disqualification) is a "speeding ticket" that tells us to SLOW down and take a look at how we can improve our stroke.  It means that we are still learning. A Swimmer is disqualified (DQed) when he/she swims a stroke illegally. DQ's are not something to get upset over they are a chance for us to learn
